What is the Indiana Food Vision?
A Roadmap for a Thriving Indiana Food System
The Indiana Food Vision will be a roadmap for cultivating a robust, nourishing, and prosperous food system where all communities in Indiana thrive. We are leading a planning process to identify the key areas in which policy, programs, and funding can advance a thriving food system.
Who
The Indiana Food Vision is for every Hoosier who eats or grows food! This effort is being organized by a statewide steering committee made up of public and private sector partners, non-profits, and regional food policy council members, in partnership with the Indiana Department of Health and Indiana University.

Why
To create a shared understanding of challenges and opportunities in our food system. The Indiana food system includes food from production to plate to waste with the social, environmental, and economic factors that impact eating. This shared understanding will enable us to set goals, measure progress, and strategize to address challenges. Most importantly, the Vision will unify efforts across the state to:
Inform decision makers at the local, regional, and state levels
Help communities, businesses, and organizations get funding
Identify what’s already working in our food systems
Foster innovation and collaboration across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors
Support local efforts with statewide data and information
How
The Indiana Food Vision is a ‘by the people for the people’ effort to center the voices of Hoosiers who eat, grow and/or buy food in Indiana. Robust statewide community engagement through listening sessions, surveys and interviews will inform the Vision and create a common language for positive change. Together, we will chart a shared path and focus on the issues that matter most to Hoosiers.
When
From April to October 2024, we gathered valuable insights through a public survey and listening sessions. Now, as we review your input to develop the Indiana Food Vision, you can still stay connected with Indiana’s food future. Here’s how:
